THE month started with a casino/cocktail evening in the bar on 4th, members only and not 17th Nov as previously stated..
This was followed immediately by the Bell Theatre show "Ten Little Indians" by Agatha Christie, directed by Paul Barnes. This featured Stephen Smith, Keith Borgust, Su Hands, Ann Walker, Chris King, Ruth Shettle, John Lyne, Don Gillate, Les Lidyard and Brian Scoltock or James O'Hegarty?
Auditions for the March 1983 Bell Theatre production, "Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco were held on 14th by Terry Barden
There was a "Celebration of the Christmas Season" from 17th - 19th in Prompt Corner with Ann & Mike Mattey, Lynn Jenner, Bruce Murray Alan Buckman and "2 guest stars". (Tickets were £1.50 including refreshments)
It was announced that in the club football match of the sexes the Beasts (ladies) had beaten the Beauties (lads) by seven goals to six, a return netball match was threatened. The winners of the second stage of the Car Rally were Brian Scoltock, Pam Lyne and John Lyne. The annual Christmas Party was held on 18th (admission by ticket, free to members guests ,one per member, £1), followed on 19th at 4pm the children's Christmas Party for up to 13 year-olds. The bar was closed from 24th - 27th and the New Year's Party (admission as per the Christmas one) was, of course held on 31st
Auditions were held for the March production of "Stage Struck"by SImon Grey to be directed by Bill Merrow.
Prompt Corner presented "Bermondsey" by John Mortimer and "The Romance" by Claire Booker from 11th - 13th both directed by Malcolm WOodman. "One more Celebration of Christmas" (a mixture of songs, poems and prose) arranged by Adrian Bascombe and Brenda Meldrum's Senior Group presented "Christmas Ghosts"from 22nd - 24th.
Auditions for a "chopped about" version of "Macbeth" with a cast of 9 were held by director Doug Jeffers, for February performance.
The Members' Club Christmas Party was on 19th and 31st saw Hogmanay (to confuse the plebs).
Bernie Bullbrook was trying to organise a radio play for local Hospital Radio. (Maybe next year, Bernie)
Su Hands directed "Teechers" by John Godber, with Debby Kane, Sarah Tripp, Alan Slater and Tom Williams from 15th - 19th, searches of the audience for stick bombs, pellets, etc would be made.....
Auditions were held for "Filumena" by Edwardo de Filippo (Keith Waterhouse & Willis Hall translation) by Les Lidyard.
The Members' Club held the (originally titled) SLTC Christmas Party on 9th, DJ for the night was billed as "Mr Fabulous, just back from Berlin, Colin Starkendorf, a Members Only Night was held on 27th and on 31st we held a New Year's Eve Party
Auditions were held on 15th & 17th for "The Nerd" by Larry Shue, to be directed in March by Malcolm Woodman in the Bell Theatre.
Robert Stocks (social administrator) assured us all that we could stay up late for the Christmas Party on 20th with a discotheque, sweeties and pop. Also that there would be a theme party that would co-incide with New Years Eve, "Cunning, huh?" he said.
The bar was closed Christmas Day and open afternoon only on Boxing Day.
