REBECCA

Adapted from the novel by Daphne Du Maurier

Tuesday 23rd & Thursday 25th July 8pm

Performance Dates
Tuesday 5th- Saturday 9th November

WEALTHY and handsome widower, Maxim De Winter, meets his new bride, a young and timid ladies companion, in Monte Carlo. They return to Manderley, the De Winter estate on the Cornish coast, but their joy is short-lived due to the unsettling presence of Maxims first wife, Rebecca, who maintains a strange and unearthly hold over everyone there. The ever-loyal housekeeper, Mrs Danvers, never fails to remind the new Mrs De Winter that she has stepped into shoes she cannot fit.

Through the eyes of the young bride the play reveals a flaw in Rebeccas perfect reputation, and unveils a truth that proves more devastating that anything she could have foreseen.

The piece centres around the character of the second Mrs De Winter, who recalls events as a partial memory. Lights and sound will play a crucial part in creating the atmosphere of the scenes as she recalls them. The play offers some challenging roles for both men and women and several smaller character roles. There is also the possibility of some doubling of the smaller mens roles. Some of the ages are fairly flexible, so dont be put off if you dont exactly fit!

I look forward to seeing both new and experienced members at the auditions.
