SOCIAL NEWS

A heartfelt and very large thank you to Andrew for all the work he put in last year as Social Administrator. Fortunately he will still be spending his hard-earned cash behind the bar so well continue to see lots of him!

I intend to continue with the same format of having a social committee to support the work of the Social Administrator - and want this to be representative of a cross section of members so that we can put on events that will appeal to a wide audience. I am delighted that Andrew, Lionel, Lisa and Liz have agreed to continue on the committee and Kat has agreed to join us. If anyone one else wishes to be involved in any way please let me know.

Also if you have any thoughts or ideas on the type of events you want us to put on let us know and (subject to cost and feasibility) well do our best to respond.

A quick précis of events last month.

In May we were treated to a quiz by Jeanette and Pat, who fought off stiff competition from the Eurovision Song Contest. For future quizzes those with little interest in Eurovision may wish to note that Latvia won this year. The quiz was ably won (again) by Helen, Matthew and Alan. I am beginning to notice a familiar pattern here and would urge some new challengers to the crown!

We all wished Brian a happy 50th Birthday on 1st June and revelries continued into the night. (any pics?) [No, but thanks to Anthony for the music and our other 50-this-year's who turned out. Also it was good to see Bernie down for the first time since his recent operation, Brian] Future Events

June 22nd

Quiz Night. Andrew has decided he will still be hungover as it is only four days after his birthday and so Lisa will be the Grand Quiz Mistress on this night. Andrew will still accept offers of drinks. Usual rules apply.

June 29th

My Top/Bottom Tune. The return of the popular My Top Tune with a twist. Bring along either your favourite tune and tell us why you like it or bring along a tune that everyone else loves but you really loathe and tell us why. The Birdie song or anything by Celine Dion etc. will not be accepted, as it is well known that nobody likes these and we dont want it to be an evening of torture. Lisa will be the Grand Tune Mistress for this evening (do I see another pattern emerging?) as I will be having a jolly time in gay Paris.

Friday 19th & Saturday 20th July

Replacing the normal slot for the July quiz we have another entertainment hosted by Stuey D. This will be a grand musical extravaganza going under the working title A Little Light Music. We are promised something very special in the cabaret style on the Bell Stage with proceeds going towards the lighting rig in Prompt. There will be a late bar. This sounds a fabulous night, in aid of a good cause and worth putting in your diary early.

The new quiz season will be kicking off in September with the Annual Film Quiz - if anyone wishes to volunteer for future quizzes from October onwards please let me know. Thats all for now. Hope to see you all soon. Lots of love,
Fiona, Andrew, Lionel, Lisa, Liz & Kat
