1917: Two First World War officers meet in a mental hospital in Scotland, one has shell shock, the other doesn't. Both are poets, both are scarred by what they have experienced on the Western Front.

This play charts the friendship between Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, which developed during their time at Craiglockhart War Hospital, through poetry, letters and dialogue. A deeply moving piece, we see the published poet and angry protester Sassoon help to develop the untapped talent of the shy, provincial Owen. They also wrestle with their own feelings about the war and their likely return to it.

Just two characters: Please do not be put off coming to audition if you don't look stunningly like a poet! I'm not too bothered about physical similarity or age, though, if possible, I would like Sassoon to be the taller and older. Character and ability are what matter, not look-a-likes!

CAST

Wilfred Owen: mid 20s, stammer, vicar's assistant, from Welsh Borders.

Siegfried Sassoon: early 30s, an aristocratic fox hunting man, from rural Kent.

I am looking for two dedicated actors who can take the demanding parts of Sassoon and Owen and make them their own. With Prompt Corner as an ideal backdrop I intend to use a simple set which detracts nothing from one of the most important literary meetings of the last hundred years.
