Little Theatre Guild AGM and Conference 2002

WHEN John and I went as your representatives to the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain's (LTG) conference recently, it was very revealing to hear about the experiences of many other amateur theatre groups.

The conference venue was the Apollo Theatre (a former Methodist church0 on the Isle of Wight, and our hosts the members of this theatre group, entertained us royally. What an achievement to feed and house about 80 delegates who had come from all over the country. Not only that, they put on a wonderfully entertaining evening called "Noel and Cole" and then on the next night topped that with a performance of their current show "Filumena" by Eduardo De Filippo, which was excellent.

It wasn't all entertainments though. The serious side of the conference was not overlooked and we attended the forum to discuss box office reconstruction with modern technology. (Not understanding a word of this, I'm afraid, all the information has been passed to Anton, who does!) A lot of ideas about training to use all this technology: royalties: local community involvement (which can aid any funding that might be available) and a few ideas for fund raising. (Which have been passed on to our own fund-raiser. Ed.)

There were several "workshops" going on during the day. I went to "Using your voice" and not only was it fun, but I learned a lot. The practical "workshops" on scenery construction and pattern making were very well attended it seems.

All in all an excellent conference, sharing experiences is extremely valuable and we can all do better if we support our club in whatever way we can.
