MARCH PROMPT CORNER SHOW
BURST
(A Warning from Recent History)

By C.B Tempest

Wednesday 12th - Saturday 15th March. 8pm

There's a thin line between life and death, truth and deceit and dreams and reality.

Based on true events, this is the story of three young, intelligent people who all shared the same belief that society was beneath them and that they were above everyone else. Jane and Ruth meet at University and the pair strike up a unique friendship that isolates them from their peers.

Jane falls in love with Stephen, a moody, unemployed loner with extreme views and ambitions. He moves into the house that Jane and Ruth share, and falling in love with Ruth, he becomes the catalyst for the explosive events that cause their lives to burst apart.

Set in both Britain and America in the early to mid 1990's, this play looks at the issue of guns (once again hitting the headlines), and perhaps at how a lack of meaning and stability in life can unleash deep resentment. Ideally, I'm hoping for the audience to think about the issues in the play and to see how they reflect today's society.

This is a demanding and exciting piece of new drama, following in the footsteps of other new writing that has premiered at SLT. It covers difficult issues that will be a challenge for both actors and audience alike.

Starring a cast of new and old alike, it features Hazel Anderson (Love Me Slender) as Jane, newcomer Kaye Barham as Ruth, David Ford (Up and Under) as Stephen, with a supporting cast of SLT stalwarts Peter Medd, Linda East and relative newcomers Kathylene Madriaga and Sandy Cross.

Thursday night will be an Audience Critique night, and as possibly a first for a few years, will allow the audience to discuss and comment on this new work with the director and cast directly after the show. Friday night is Red Nose Day, but do not fear, collection buckets (!!) will be ready and 'primed for your purse'!

Finally, make sure you don't miss out on this new piece of theatre at it's premiere.

I hope you will enjoy the ride!!

Steve Ellis, director.
