SOCIAL NEWS

AUGUST was a quietish month on the social front as many of us were enjoying our holidays or painting the bar. If you haven't been down yet to see the new brighter colour scheme or to sample the new beer and wine on sale, why not combine a trip down with a social event?! Unusually we enjoyed fine weather for the Annual Rickinson Barbecue (ably abetted by Liz on the veggie front) and then fun down in the bar for our very own version of the Commonwealth Games, or "friendly games" as these are otherwise known. I will be getting my old geography/history books out of storage to check on the validity of some of the lesser known commonwealth countries, which seemed to be competing (the country of Anerley?)and the surprise guest nations which attended (Turmenistan). A huge turnaround from the expected result saw a swing away from the usual medal nations with an unassailable romp into the lead by the Easter Islands (Anton) and the British Virgin Islands (Jack) a creditable second. Competition was particularly fierce on bunny throwing, paper plane making, and balloon boxing and after lots of other funfilled moments the synchronised rhythmic gymnastics rounded off the evening in a more surreal manner.
