THE MEMBERS' CLUB BAR
Drinks for the interval and a place to chat
The SLTC Members' Club Bar is open every evening (not only during productions) and on Sundays from mid afternoon onwards to keep rehearsal casts refreshed.
It is staffed by members, and is open to all full members and their guests.
The bar has gone through many changes recently. Two years ago the walls
were sanded down and painted a shade of "Inca Gold", those behind the bar in
"Library Red". All the wooden stools and bench seats were sanded down and
revarnished and reupholstered. The tables were also sanded and revarnished.
Later the fixed seating at the walls was replaced by leather sofas. A new electrostatic air filter and the banning of smoking at the bar counter has
improved the quality the air for staff and customers.
A change of brewery from Young's to Fuller's has resulted in us selling the award winning "London Pride" though due to unsuitable cellar
temperature (we are hoping to change this soon) it is keg not real ale, though in the winter months we serve "real"
ESB from minipins on the counter. Draught Lager beer is represented by Carling Black Label and Staropramen.
The Draught stout is Guiness, now from Dublin. Due to a recent decision to purchase wines from Majestic wine warehouses we have
a selection of wine chosen by our members and a wide range to choose from to add to or replace this. Also
we have a wide range of bottled beers, Hogaarden, Peroni and Budvar (or Pilsner Urquel) are regulars
with other beers from around the world as monthly specials
Recent events have included a stand-up comedy night, a regular quiz,
barbeque and boules day (on the roof).
SLT members tell it like it is:-
Linda East (in 1999):
It's a nice social atmosphere in here. Where else, as a woman,
can you just go into a bar and feel happy about it? I've lived here 18
years and didn't know the SLT was here - but since I discovered the place
8 months ago, I've done four shows. Once you find it, it's addictive.
You meet people you wouldn't meet, and everyone talks to each other - people
of all different ages and from different professions mixing together.
