THE SOUTH LONDON THEATRE

Our theatre is housed in this Victorian ex-fire station, at 2a Norwood High Street SE27, almost opposite the Nettlefold Hall and Norwood Library . We believe there are only two theatres in England that were prevously fire stations, the other being in Oxford. Ours had a rather short history with the fire service as it was built for horse-drawn fire engines and the new motorised appliances were too big for the doors, which could not be extended. The area behind these doors, where the appliances and horses were kept, is now our Bell Theatre stage.

The building later became the hall of St Luke's Church (seen on the right of the picture above) gaining a single storey extension, which is now our Studio Theatre, Prompt Corner.
