Publicity and Fundraising

We can have fun doing both!

As we are entirely an amateur organisation, in the sense that no-one is paid, some costs are reduced but we still have to fund our productions and keep the building maintained. To boost the income from membership subscriptions, tickets and the Members Club bar, we have to raise money in other ways. Sometimes this can be combined with a little publicity. On Sunday 19th March 2000 eleven of our members took part in the Wimbledon 10k run.

Organised by Pat Mill (above right) and Neil Husband (left) the 11 started from Wimbledon Rugby club at 10.30 am wearing T-shirt carrying the Theatre name, logo and a picture of the building. All 11 managed to finish and raise a total of £1288 (pledged) to be split between the Theatre (a registered charity itself) and the runners personal choices which include, The Anthony Nolan Bonemarrow Fund, Barnardos, Imperial Cancer research, a Lukemia charity, the Alzheimers Society, Shelter & Help a London Child.

Neil and Pat also ran in the Wimbledon Half Marathon last year, as reported in SCENE.

A mainstay of our fundraising is the income from hire of costumes from our extensive wardrobe, both to other amateur theatres and to the Fringe, a regular customer is the Kings Head, Islington. this is run by France Walker, a very young 90 year-old, and Val Williams who can manufacture sometimes unbelievable props (we don't know how she does it).
